Material Sorter
PeopleReady of Perham, MN is now hiring Material Sorters in Hoffman, MN. The Material Sorter is responsible for safely and efficiently identifying, sorting, and separating metals from the processing stream.

Pay Rate:
The pay rate for this job is $21.24 - $21.24 / hour*
What you'll be doing as a Material Sorter:
- Manually sort metal material from the conveyor line including a mix of ferrous, nonferrous, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and brass material
- Perform daily cleaning, cutting, scraping to maintain facility equipment, including conveyors, screens, magnets, and other processing systems
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the maintenance shop and parts storage areas
- Perform general housekeeping duties in processing facility and office areas
- Operate heavy equipment (forklift and skid loaders) to move, load, sort, and organize materials
- Identify and remove non-compostable items (e.g., plastics, metals, and glass) from the incoming organic material
- Inspect and perform routine maintenance checks on equipment to ensure safe operation
- Label, stage, and prepare containers for storage or shipment
- Sweep, mop, and clean floors, in the office and processing area
- Empty trash and recycling containers throughout the facility
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, sinks, counters, and high – touch surfaces
- Perform Regular cleaning of walkways, entryways, and employee common areas
- Routinely remove debris, buildup, and blockages to ensure smooth equipment operation
- Use air wands, brooms, shovels, power tools, and other cleaning tools safely and effectively
- Assist maintenance technicians with mechanical tasks, tool handling, and part preparation
- Assists other employees in operating and servicing of the landfill and compost facility equipment and buildings
- Observe and follow all facility safety policies and procedures, including use of PPE
- Support lockout/tagout procedures and report unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions promptly
- Assist in the inventory control of spare parts
- Support other operational activities as assigned
- Other duties as assigned or apparent

Shift timings - 1st Shift (Day)
Job requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience in industrial labor, recycling, janitorial work, or facility maintenance preferred
- Forklift or equipment operation experience, preferably in a waste, recycling, or industrial setting
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to read and interpret site maps, load manifests, and safety procedures
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation and maintenance of MRF related equipment
- Ability to identify materials in the waste stream so that they can be properly removed
- Ability to work with other employees engaged in operating and repairing equipment
- Basic mechanical understanding and willingness to learn
- Ability to safely use hand tools, baling equipment, and cleaning tools
- Must be able to work in confined workspaces
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Welding Skills are Helpful
- Work Environment and Physical Demands: Must be able to lift objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds constantly
- Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- Frequent exposure to dust, noise, odors, outdoor elements, mechanical hazards, and varying to extreme weather conditions
- Comfortable working in loud, dusty, and hot/cold environments
- Requires standing for extended periods of time, walking, and manual labor throughout the shift
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times including a respirator
- Background check and drug screening required
